Well here we are. January’s nearly over at last – it does seem to go on a bit! Santa says it sometimes feels like January is longer than the distance to the moon and back, and he should know, since he once flew there with a pair of binoculars to watch someone called Neil land an eagle there or something.

I never did understand that really. Santa’s never been that interested in bird watching before.

But anyway, it will soon be 1 February, or Holly Day, as we call it, which is the last day of rest and also – how exciting! – the Annual Reindeer Races.

Thing is, most people think Santa’s reindeer are the classic team of Dasher, Donner, Blitzen, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dancer and Vixen. And the most famous of all too, whom we generally call Foggy.

Actually though, most of those reindeer retired many years ago, with poor Comet actually getting fired for bad behaviour (though this is actually being reinvestigated).

As such, each year Santa likes to hold a bit of a competition for the young reindeer to look out for future talent.

Personally, this year I think Silversun will be the one to beat. She’s the fastest reindeer I’ve seen since Goldhoof joined Santa’s team fifteen years ago!

Anyway, I’d best head to the training grounds. I need to make sure the smoke machines are working ready for the chimney-dodging round!
